高脚鸟巢是随机出现在岩石地的自然生成物件。高脚鸟会从鸟巢中出现（每个鸟巢最多 1 只），并且会产下 1 颗高脚鸟蛋。
高脚鸟蛋可以从鸟巢中被取走，但是会引起高脚鸟妈妈生气并且开始追逐玩家。高脚鸟会在 17.5 游戏小时后产下新的蛋，或者如果高脚鸟被杀死，则会在 4.5~5.5 天后重生新的高脚鸟。如果高脚鸟妈妈被杀而鸟蛋并没有被取走的话，则鸟蛋会孵化成新的高脚鸟。
在黄昏时，高脚鸟会回到鸟巢中睡觉，不过如果有任何人靠近鸟巢的话则它会立刻惊醒。
提示
玩家在高脚鸟巢附近用火时要特别注意，因为鸟巢十分易燃而且无法再生。
玩家在拿了鸟蛋后必须要有杀了高脚鸟妈妈的心理准备，不然高脚鸟会追击玩家很长的时间（而且因为移动速度较快的关系，玩家几乎无法甩掉它）。
如果玩家跳入虫洞，则可以轻易的甩掉高脚鸟（高脚鸟并无法使用虫洞），可以轻松的偷取高脚鸟蛋。

根据麦斯威尔的话语：“它是用脏牛毛做成的。”，明白表示高脚鸟巢是用野牛毛制作而成的。
